A Good Mower Makes Yard Work Easy
Lawn maintenance is an interesting household chore. Some people absolutely love it. The painstaking mowing of the lawn to exact standards means a lot. Others find it to be just something that has to be done, but isn’t something to really be enjoyed. One common belief between these two types of people is that both recognize the benefit of using a good lawn mower. For the first type, there’s precision and things look great. For the second type of people, the job gets done quickly. So, everyone needs a good mower. But what is a good mower? Really, it’s different for each different yard. Larger yards need something that can get large swaths of lawn done quickly. Smaller yards need precision. In the end, people need to choose the right mower for themselves.
Riding Mowers
Riding mowers are one of the best tools for people with larger lawns or yards. If you are measuring your lot in acres, then you probably want to get yourself a riding mower. It should be worth noting that a riding mower is going to be more expensive than a traditional push mower. Most riding lawn mowers are comfortable working on an area up to a max of around 4 acres at a time. For areas bigger than that, commercial mowers are going to be required to be sure.

Good riding mowers offer many different cutting heights and tight turning radiuses. This is incredibly important since it can be difficult to keep clean lines if there isn’t. An incredible turning radius can be smaller than 18 inches on a great riding mower. Riding mowers can be electric, but most are still cas powered. A nice advanced feature for a riding mower is cruise control. This can allow you to easily and comfortably maintain a straight and even cut. Some of the most impressive riding mowers include:
- John Deere E180
- Cub Cadet XT1 LT
- Cub Cadet ZT1
- Ryobi 38-Inch Battery Electric Riding Lawn Mower
Robot Mowers
For people with smaller lawns, a push mower may be pretty standard. However, a robot mower may be the option. Rather than needing to go out there every few days and cut the lawn, just send out the robot! Robot lawn mowers function much the same way that robot vacuum cleaners do. Unlike their vacuum cousins, they need to have their boundaries laid out for them. Typically this is done with wire to show where it boundaries.
Robot mowers are pretty fantastic, but it’s worth noting that they aren’t the most powerful. They are ideal for keeping lawns trim and neat, but not if things have been left unattended for a long period of time. They can also have issues with lawns which have a lot of elevation changes. The flatter the lawn, the better the robot mower is going to do on it.
Choosing the Right Mower
This article has already highlighted two of the best types of mower you can get on the market in the riding and robot variety. However, which is actually best for you? In a lot of cases, the answer is neither, and it’s a push option that should be chosen.
Another consideration needs to be budget. If you have a big budget, then it’s not that hard to find a good mower, regardless of the type you want to choose. Smaller budgets require more care. Getting a good riding mower will cost upwards of $1,300 in most cases. Whereas a basic push mower powered by good ol’ muscles can cost under $100. Essentially, choosing the right mower comes down to cross referencing the size of your lawn with your budget to find the right option.
