2020 Should Be Called "The Year of the Truck"

2020 marked an incredible year for trucks. In addition to improvements made to the consistent studs of the truck market, more companies than ever have been creating new trucks for people to enjoy. If there’s one disappointment, it’s that the Hyundai Santa Cruz ended up getting pushed back another year. Whether you’re looking for a little compact truck to help you with some occasional chores, or a trail devouring behemoth that can take on all situations, there’s a truck made for you in 2020. What follows are some of the best trucks out there right now. What’s great is that even many of the trucks that didn’t make this list are still really good! The right truck for you simply depends on your needs.

1 - Ford F-150

How many truck lists has the Ford F-150 topped over the years? There’s a reason for it. Ford continues to make sure that it’s either the best truck on the road, or one of them. 2020 is no exception. Like most frontline pickups, there’s an endless array of cab options, engine options (The 2.7 liter turbo six cylinder is surprisingly impressive) and trim options. You can pick up an F-150 that’s cheap and efficient for work, or pick up one that’s got a loaded four door cabin to transport the family around.

2 - Chevrolet Colorado

The Colorado is a fantastic mid size truck. Unlike many others, the truck handles beautifully on the road, making it easy to drive and putting new truck drivers at ease. There’s plenty of engine choice to be had. The Chevy Colorado is getting a redesign in 2021, so if you like the look of it, this has to be the year you make a move on it. If not, then maybe 2021 is going to be the year!

3 - Nissan Titan

When the Titan was introduced, it shook the truck segment with just how good it was. Years passed and the American truck giants keep progressing, while the Titan was surprisingly left behind. Some improvements have allowed the Titan to get back in the game and compete with the best. The updated V-8 engine produces an impressive 400 horsepower, but won’t be saving you anything at the pumps.

4 - Jeep Gladiator

It took several years for the Gladiator to finally show up and it hasn’t managed to disappoint in the slightest. The Gladiator borrows the base style from the Wrangler and it somehow manages to make the look it’s own. The Gladiator is the only pickup truck that offers a “Freedom Top” or a convertible top as options. Despite that, it doesn’t lack the muscle. It offers 7650lb towing and 1600lb payload capacity. These are great numbers for a compact pickup. Much of that is due to the excellent 285 horsepower V6. For those who prefer diesel, their EcoDiesel V-6 may shed a few horsepower, but provides a phenomenal 442-lb-ft torque.

5 - Ram Heavy Duty

The Ram Heavy Duty is quite simply a monster of a truck. It managed to win the 2020 MotorTrend Truck of the Year award, which very rarely goes to heavy duty work models. The Ram Heavy Duty is just as comfortable to drive whether it’s got a full load or driving empty. It has all the wonderful interior styling of the Ram 1500. If there’s one downside, it’s that the top of the line model is over $60,000. On the upside, it’s somehow worth it!
